About Us
Late in May, 1927 a group from the Ann Street Methodist Church in Concord led by their pastor, Rev. G. H. Hendry erected a tent on the Woodrow Wilson School Ground to hold a Revival. The purpose of this Revival was to see whether there were possibilities of organizing a new church in the North Kannapolis area. The leader and evangelist for these services was the Lay Leader of the Ann Street Church, Mr. D. A. McLaurin, Sr.The services were held for one week but this was not sufficient time to realize the goal of church organizing. Mr. McLaurin secured a lot on the North Walnut Street Extension and bought the tent and moved it to the new location. The services continued until about June 15th at which time a church was organized with 16 members and it was chartered "The Methodist Protestant Church of Kannapolis" A building was completed in 1929 to replace the tent and this served the people until 1951. When Methodist congregations merged in 1939, the name was then changed to "North Kannapolis Methodist Church" The present stone church building was constructed in a little over two years. Groundbreaking was conducted in May, 1949, and the first service was held in the new church on December 15, 1951. In 1959 an eight room parsonage was built next door to the church, replacing the former wood structure.
